The Filipino-American Council of the Mississippi Gulf Coast is a charitable and educational nonprofit organization dedicated to culture, service, fellowship, and opportunity. We connect Filipino-American families and friends across Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson Counties while welcoming everyone who shares an interest in our mission.

Rooted on the Mississippi Gulf Coast

Our story began in 1979, when approximately twenty Filipino-American families formed an organization where culture could be preserved, friendships could grow, and families could serve the wider community together. Its charter was approved on December 11, 1980, establishing a foundation intended to endure across generations.

Today, the organization continues as The Filipino-American Council of the Mississippi Gulf Coast, also known as Fil-Am. The name has evolved, but the heart of the work remains familiar: honor our heritage, care for one another, invite people into community life, and help the next generation move forward with confidence.

Our Purpose

The Council exists to:

  • Provide charitable programs and community service
  • Preserve and share Filipino culture and heritage
  • Foster friendship, fellowship, and belonging
  • Encourage youth to pursue education and leadership
  • Build constructive partnerships across the Mississippi Gulf Coast

We are organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Council resources support programs and activities aligned with that mission.

A Community with Many Doorways

Some people first meet Fil-Am through a cultural celebration. Others arrive through family, friendship, volunteering, youth activities, community service, or a desire to reconnect with Filipino heritage. There is no single way to belong.

Free Community Membership offers an accessible way to receive public event announcements and Council news. Supporting Membership provides a deeper path into participation and organizational governance. Other Filipino groups may also collaborate with the Council while retaining their own names, traditions, leadership, and autonomy.
